Ancient pond guardian

Asleep at the water’s edge

Till a sudden breeze woke him up

Or maybe it was me

 

He slowly turned

His craggy eyes deep as wishing wells

An expression like recognition

Slowly forming on his shaggy face

 

His mouth opened

And he spoke

Green words that sounded

Like wind and geese
